What We Provide
At Bayview we specialize in custom framing using conservation methods. We cut our own mats and cut and assemble frames using specialized tools in our storefront and workshop in Ladsymith. Our prices are very competitive for comparable quality. We also offer more economical framing options for less-demanding projects. Come in and talk to us and we’ll be happy to help you find a solution that works for you.
Picture Framing
A watercolour painting, a fine-art print or a photograph may be framed under glass with one or more mats, or perhaps a fillet (a small frame-within-a-frame around the image). An oil or acrylic painting on canvas can be framed using traditional “back-loading” frames, or more contemporary front-loading or “floater” frames.
Specialty Framing
Everyone is familiar with slipping grad photos or a favourite print into a frame and putting it on the wall. But what would you do with your grandfather’s service medals? A collection of family photos? A prized petit point piece? A difficult jigsaw puzzle, now complete? They all call for special treatment, and there are custom framing solutions to almost every special project.
How It’s Made
The print is enhanced by an outer mat with a contrasting inner mat showing as a narrow “reveal.” These mats are made of cotton rag or lignin-free archival mat board. The print is “hinged” to the back of the matboard with acid-free tape, and backed with acid-free foamboard for stiffness.
